This great suburban trail is about 14 kilometres east of the centre of Melbourne. This looped route begins from the Burwood train station.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Grade 3: Easy-Medium 14 km circuit walk (graded according to the AWTGS: Australian Walking Tracks Grading System).

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: From the station, we’ll follow parts of the Gardiners Creek and Anniversary Trails, both well-maintained paths shared by pedestrians and cyclists. Although long-ish, the trail is easy and quite level. And there are several spots where you can cut the walk short.

Gardiners Creek, originally known as Kooyongkoot Creek, is an urban stream in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and part of the Yarra River catchment. Apart from a few sparse surviving remnant riparian bushlands, the majority of the creek’s length has been heavily urbanised, in much the same way as other Melbourne eastern suburban streams such as the Mullum Mullum Creek and Koonung Creek. The Gardiners Creek Trail follows the creek for most of its length.

Anniversary Trail, also known as The Outer Circle Trail, is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which partly follows the Alamein line through the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

By linking these two trails and a bit of the ‘burbs, we can do a loop walk from and back to Burwood Station.
