Transgender Australia: A History poster in bold capital letters over a yellow square background

Join authors Noah Riseman and Sam Elkin as they enter into a conversation about trans history. They will weave together personal experience with historical examples to discuss changes to trans life and politics in Victoria since the early twentieth century. Their discussion will especially focus on the role of activism, as well as where activists and political causes have fallen short at addressing the real challenges facing trans Victorians on the margins.

Noah Riseman is a long-standing social researcher who conducts projects which benefit diverse communities. His book, “Transgender Australia, a History since 1910”, is the first book on Australian trans history that explores the lives and impacts of trans and gender-diverse Australians.

Sam Elkin is a non-binary transmasculine writer, event producer and co-editor of Nothing to Hide: Voices of Trans and Gender Diverse Australia. He hosts the 3RRR radio show Queer View Mirror and his debut book is Detachable Penis: A Queer Legal Saga is out now.
