SUMMARY:Speed Mating: Build & Connect Edition
DESCRIPTION:Does this sound like you? \n– Tired of endless online chats that never turn into real life connection?\n– Want to practise feeling more confident socially in a queer friend space?\n– Craving grounded\, meaningful friendships with other gay\, bi\, trans and queer men. \nYou’ll feel right at home here at Speed Mating’s ‘Build & Connect Edition’ – a queer social night designed to spark genuine connection in a way that feels relaxed\, guided\, and actually enjoyable. \nThis isn’t about awkward speed dating or surface level small talk. It’s about creating a space where connection feels easier – especially if social confidence isn’t always your strongest muscle. This event is intentionally designed with socially shy\, socially rusty\, and socially overthinking humans in mind. \nWe use structured activities and guided conversation rounds to help you practise how you connect with new people – including small group rounds\, partner chats\, and shared prompts that take the pressure off “what do I say next?” \nSo The Good News Is: \n– No chaos.\n– No cliques.\n– No being left standing alone wondering how to enter a conversation. \nAnd Think Along The Lines Of: \n– Clear structure\n– Clear facilitation\n– Rotating rounds (including group conversations) \nEvent Overview: \n– You’ll have two full hours of guided connection – with enough movement and variety to keep things fresh\, but enough structure to feel safe and supported.\n– And here’s the beautiful part: every Chemistry Lab night is a little different. The prompts change. The group energy shifts. The conversations surprise you. \nThe Venue: \nWe’ll be gathering in the back bar of the The Laird Hotel – one of Australia’s longest running gay owned venues. Once known as Melbourne’s iconic bear and leather bar. The Laird has evolved into a warm and inclusive meeting place for same sex attracted CIS and Trans men. \nEvent Details: \n– The Laird Hotel – Back Bar\n– Arrive by 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start\n– Free tickets (bring a friend!) via Eventbrite until sold out \nPlease Note: \n– This is not a dating or hook-up event. It’s about friendship\, community\, and practising real-life connection in a supportive space.\n– If you book a ticket\, please commit to coming – and if something changes\, cancel so someone else can take your spot. \nCome as you are. Come open minded and ready to connect – at your own pace.

SUMMARY:Queer By Nature: Tending the Inner Flame
DESCRIPTION:As the days grow shorter and the air cools\, this Queer By Nature workshop invites you to turn inward and tend to what keeps you warm. \nTending the Inner Flame explores the quiet work of care\, protection\, and inner resourcing during the shift toward winter. Together\, we’ll reflect on what feels steady\, meaningful\, and worth nurturing\, and how to stay connected to that sense of warmth through the colder months. \nThis 2.5 hour workshop offers a gently held\, inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ folks to reconnect with themselves\, each other\, and the more-than-human world. Through guided reflection\, time in nature\, creative expression\, mythic storytelling\, and a shared group ritual\, you’ll be supported to explore your own “inner flame” – something to return to\, protect\, and draw strength from.\nYou can expect a calm\, welcoming environment with plenty of choice in how you participate. No art experience is needed – just curiosity and openness. \nWhat to expect \nGentle grounding and guided reflection\nSolo time in nature to notice seasonal shifts\nA creative process exploring your inner flame\nA collaborative group ritual centred on shared warmth and care \n✨ Light refreshments and art materials provided \nThis is a neuro-affirming\, trauma-aware space. Everything is invitational – you’re welcome to engage in whatever way feels right for you.\nCome as you are\, and join us in co-creating an afternoon of queer connection\, creativity\, and quiet tending.

Some of us may be dealing with grief. \nIf any of this resonates with you\, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. SUMMARY:Melbourne Gay Mens 40+ Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group! \nMy name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so\, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured\, supported\, and acknowledged. \nAs we transition into a different phase of life\, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief\, from my own experience\, that some of these are directly\, but not exclusively\, tied to our sexuality and how that can influence self-actualisation later in life. \nSome of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren’t as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love\, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn’t follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result\, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief. \nIf any of this resonates with you\, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. That\, in of itself\, can be extremely healing. \nThe group is not a substitute for therapy\, but a safe space to share and connect with others on a similar journey and to find inspiration. \nThe group is specifically targeted to gay men who are aged 40+ due to the topics covered. Due to the limitations of the space and the need to keep it intimate\, there is a maximum of 10 attendees.
