Listen Up explores arid\, uninhabited corners with processed instrumentation and greyscale electronics. Lost Few’s interdisciplinary approach pieces together visceral experiences in sound\, light\, scent\, touch\, and vision for something we promise you’ve never felt before. Become a part of the Listen Up installation\, and discover a totally unique sensory experience representing the diversity of Gender Binary\, Intersection\, Fragility and Masculinity. \nARTIST STATEMENT | “A Ceremonial undressing of identity\, Fragility of Necessity is part of a series of sound and video works that explore the idea of masculinity. Through the documentation of a dancer set within a natural environment. Beauty and brutality\, the work poses the question of what is soft\, what is strength\, why are anger and sadness intertwined?” \nARTIST BIO | Naarm/Melbourne musician and multi-sensory installation artist ‘Lost Few’ explores arid\, uninhabited corners with processed instrumentation and greyscale electronics. His interdisciplinary approach looks at building visceral sensory experiences in sound\, light\, scent and vision. DESCRIPTION:Kick off Australia’s largest pride season ever with a fabulous night of queer excellence at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl! \nHosted by queer comedy royalty Joel Creasey and RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under favourite Kween Kong\, this year’s Extravaganza promises to be the biggest yet. \nComedians Nina Oyama\, Rhys Nicholson\, Kirsty Webeck and Scout Boxall will be the gracing Extravaganza stage alongside musical performances from Courtney Act\, Kira Puru\, Mama Alto\, Dolly Diamond\, Tash York\, Tina Del Twist\, Jordan Raskopoulos\, Lou Wall\, Brendan Maclean and the hilarious Steven Oliver\, all accompanied by our house band under the expert guidance of musical director James Simpson. \nNight Of A Thousand Candees \nOne of the feature acts in the Midsumma Extravaganza will be a tribute to the late matriarch of Melbourne drag\, Miss Candee\, who passed away earlier this year after 50 years of performing in Melbourne’s queer venues. 23 Drag artists including Art Simone\, Philmah Bocks\, Dorreen Manganini\, Sue Ridge\, Fifi Bardot\, Millie Minogue\, Nova China\, Laura Gravity\, Taylor Made\, Amena Jay Alura\, Miss Jay\, Pashion Couture\, Ruby Slippers\, Tequila Mockingbird\, Polly Filla\, Justin Teliqure\, Freddie Merkin\, Lexi Gaga\, Leasa Mann\, Bella Nitrate and Granny Bingo will take to the stage to recreate some of Miss Candee’s most iconic moments in a medley of her favourite songs.

You end up with a disco koala\, a wildebeest\, a farting unicorn and a fairy that can freeze tickle monsters all co-habiting in a very tall\, yet tiny Rainbow Tree. \nThis is what it’s like living in a Rainbow Family. Everyone is welcome and anything is possible. \nThe Rainbow Tree is musical storytelling with moving image. Written with children from Rainbow families\, it shares personal and imagined stories around the idea of family\, identity and community. \nPerformed by two queer super Aunties\, Aunty Bear and ZaZa from Fat Fruit (Bec Matthews and Sarah Ward) with singing and live original music. \nThe songs are brought to life through the projected visual images of Jolyon James (Arena Theatre Company) featuring animation\, illustrations and the children themselves. \nThe stories of The Rainbow Tree were collected through Zoom meetings during the six month Melbourne lockdown. These children were isolated from their friends and extended families and had limited opportunity for adventures. This did not stop them imagining new worlds to explore. Worlds inhabited by animals and magical beings\, where they could be super versions of themselves and dig up 4005 golden cupcakes. \nThe Rainbow Tree is playful\, imaginative and interactive. It’s filled with fun visual imagery\, wonderful original songs\, live music and stories written by seven children from Rainbow families. \nThis project is generously supported by Linda Herd.

DESCRIPTION:What happens when you invite seven children from Rainbow Families to create a show? You end up with a disco koala\, a wildebeest\, a farting unicorn and a fairy that can freeze tickle monsters all co-habiting in a very tall\, yet tiny Rainbow Tree. \nThis is what it’s like living in a Rainbow Family. Everyone is welcome and anything is possible. \nThe Rainbow Tree is musical storytelling with moving image. Written with children from Rainbow families\, it shares personal and imagined stories around the idea of family\, identity and community. \nPerformed by two queer super Aunties\, Aunty Bear and ZaZa from Fat Fruit (Bec Matthews and Sarah Ward) with singing and live original music. \nThe songs are brought to life through the projected visual images of Jolyon James (Arena Theatre Company) featuring animation\, illustrations and the children themselves. \nThe stories of The Rainbow Tree were collected through Zoom meetings during the six month Melbourne lockdown. These children were isolated from their friends and extended families and had limited opportunity for adventures. This did not stop them imagining new worlds to explore. Worlds inhabited by animals and magical beings\, where they could be super versions of themselves and dig up 4005 golden cupcakes. \nThe Rainbow Tree is playful\, imaginative and interactive. It’s filled with fun visual imagery\, wonderful original songs\, live music and stories written by seven children from Rainbow families. \nThis project is generously supported by Linda Herd.

DESCRIPTION:The City of Melbourne\, in partnership with the Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care\, and during the Midsumma Festival\, are starting 2023 with a free event for older LGBTI+ people\, friends and allies – a RAINBOW SUMMER CELEBRATION. \nThis event will provide connection and information and most importantly fun\, food and entertainment. We are thrilled to announce that we have secured Jimmy Loverocket – all the way from the northern suburbs – Thornbury’s biggest heart throb\, who will be sharing some wonderful tunes. As well as Jimmy’s tunes and ‘all cheese and no sleaze’\, will be a few rounds of Rainbow Trivia – everyone can join in – there will be prizes and lots of fun. Can you take home the inaugural Rainbow Trivia title? \nAfternoon tea and light refreshments will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Introduce your children to the magic of live music and storytelling with Orchestra Victoria and The Wheeler Centre! \nIntroducing Teddy is a gentle story about gender\, being true to yourself and being a good friend. Teddy knows in her heart that she is a girl\, not a boy. Will her friends understand? Will they call her Tilly? \nSet to the sounds of the clarinet\, cello\, and percussion instruments\, and narrated by DANDROGYNY\, this musical adaption by Christine Pan brings Jessica Walton’s heart-warming picture book to life. \nYoung audience members should bring their favourite toy to the event\, they will make a special outfit for them and introduce them in style at our special pre-show Teddy Bear’s Picnic. This is the perfect opportunity for young audiences to have their passion for music and storytelling ignited\, and to celebrate all of the things that make us unique. \nArtists:\nOrchestra Victoria\nDANDROGYNY narrator and host \nDaniel Newell is a performance artist\, educator & graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts\, and performs the character DANDROGYNY. His recent performance highlights include ABC’s You Can’t Ask That\, Melbourne Festival\, Melbourne Museum\, Roola Boola Childrens Arts Fest\, and Sydney Opera House. Recent resident at Footscray City College (Creative Workers in Schools)\, Daniel also teaches drama/embodiment for St Martins Youth & Physical Theatre at UniMelb (VCA). \nRecommended for ages 5 – 8 years. \nDuration: Approximately 45 minutes no intermission
