SUMMARY:Pride Gallery Exhibition Opening - Tableaux by Gerard O'Connor
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the opening night of new Pride Gallery exhibition Tableaux by Gerard O’Connor \n\n\n\n\nYou and a guest are warmly invited to the Pride Gallery launch of our Pride Month Exhibition\, Tableaux by Gerard O’Connor \nThe Pride Gallery\, Victorian Pride Centre\n79/81 Fitzroy Street\, St Kilda\nPlease RSVP here \nTableaux by Gerard O’Connor\nThese images present cinematic\, camp tableaux that reimagine and foreground LGBTIQ+ figures who have long been overlooked in mainstream history. From men dancing the tango\, to Victorian women archers\, drag performers of the 1940s\, star singers in Buenos Aires\, and queer narratives woven through goldfields life in Caulfield’s National Trust house ‘La Bassa\,’ these works inhabit and reclaim historical spaces. Trans bridesmaids at 1980s wedding parties further underline the continuity of queer presence across time. \nThis extraordinary photographic exhibition reflects the powerful collaboration between two artistic queer practitioners and soul mates Gerard O’Connor and Marc Wasiak which commenced in the mid-1990s. O’Connor a film maker/photographer and Wasiak a set designer/prop-maker are both acclaimed in their fields and together they constructed complex and large-scale images exploring the peculiarities of human behaviour and our changing social mores \nWith Pride\, \nVPC

SUMMARY:Queer Film Heaven
DESCRIPTION:One night only.\nLook out for trans werewolves\, lesbian coaching before a big date\, outrageous set design and perfect lesbian and gay couple moments. This line-up is sure to delight.\nFor 100 min\, sit back and relax laugh\, cry\, be moved\, be inspired\, be uplifted. This is an extraordinary program of shorts – you just won’t get to see these on the big screen anywhere else. I love running these events for my community because film is a powerful medium for inclusion\, a powerful medium for storytelling. \nThis screening includes additional short films that were actually shot at the Victorian Pride Centre this February as part of the Midsumma ‘There’s a story in you‘ queer filmmaking workshop. \nYou can expect to watch fabulous films on the night\, and then socialise afterwards in this cosy centre\, right in the heart of St Kilda\, with your fellow queer film puffs. \nAbout Louise Lever:  \nLouise Lever is a filmmaker who prioritises the female gaze and LGBTQIA+ stories in her work. Her short film “Joey’s Heart” was selected to have its World Premiere at the prestigious BFI Flare Film Festival\, where it screened at Southbank theatre in front of a crowd of 400. The film has been selected to screen at Roze FilmDagen\, Amsterdam’s largest LGBTQ film festival\, and has been shown in festivals internationally. The film stars well-loved NZ actors Angela Bloomfield and Jess Sayer and was shot by DP Bayley Broome-Peake. \nWhile living in Melbourne (Naarm)\, she made her debut feature documentary film “Revolt She Said” – a portrait of contemporary perspectives on the feminist movement. The film features interviews with trailblazing women such as Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark and award-winning journalist Alison Mau. The film was a nominated for Best Documentary Film in the New York City Independent Film Festival\, and has screened on Rialto Channel and TVNZ On Demand. \nLouise is currently in development with a Feature Narrative\, and lives and works in Melbourne\, Australia

SUMMARY:Artist In Conversation with Gerard O'Connor
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to this In Conversation afternoon with Gerard O’Connor! \n\n\n\nPride Gallery Exhibit: Tableaux by Gerard O’Connor\nThese images present cinematic\, camp tableaux that reimagine and foreground LGBTIQ+ figures who have long been overlooked in mainstream history. O’Connor a film maker/photographer and Wasiak a set designer/prop-maker are both acclaimed in their fields and together they constructed complex and large-scale images exploring the peculiarities of human behaviour and our changing social mores
