DESCRIPTION:Sport has the power to bring people together\, create meaningful connections\, and foster a strong sense of belonging. Yet for many LGBTIQA+ people\, sport has not always felt safe\, welcoming\, or inclusive. \nJoin the Pride Centre for an inspiring and thought-provoking conversation with representatives from three major sporting organisations as we explore what it takes to make sport a place for everyone. \nThis panel discussion will examine: \n\nCreating genuinely inclusive sporting environments\nBuilding a sense of belonging for athletes\, staff\, volunteers and spectators\nThe challenges and opportunities facing LGBTIQA+ people in sport\nThe role of allies\, leaders and sporting organisations in driving inclusion\nTackling homophobia\, transphobia and discrimination\nCreating lasting cultural change across sport\n\nThrough conversation and shared experiences\, our panellists will discuss the progress being made across Tennis\, Netball and Football\, the work that still lies ahead\, and their vision for a more inclusive future in Australian sport. \nWhether you’re involved in sport\, passionate about inclusion\, or simply interested in learning more\, we welcome you to be part of the conversation.

DESCRIPTION:During this 6-week course\, we will cover a range of techniques and more importantly develop a mindset to be able to identify\, avoid and escape threats or attacks. You will develop how to respond rather than react and how to be mindful\, focused and aware instead of being a victim. \nWhilst the focus is on avoidance or escape\, you must be able to escalate your physical response should the situation require it and do so aggressively. Your life may depend on it and we work on developing a survival mindset to do this. \nLearn practical\, effective and easily deployable techniques \nThese strategies will help you deal with a range of threats and attacks from the front\, the side or behind whether standing\, seated or on the ground against:\n• grabs and holds\, e.g. headlocks\, bear hugs\, hair\, hand\, arm\n• strikes e.g. kicks\, punches\n• chokes and strangles\n• edged weapons\, e.g. knives (realistic defence techniques aimed at minimising harm to you and focusing on escaping) \nSituational Awareness\nThis is observing and interpreting your surroundings and setting\, threat assessment\, and identifying potential assistance. e.g. improvised weapons\, escape routes \nAwareness & Mindset\n• Managing your body language and emotional response\n• Developing a survival mindset\n• Understanding behaviour of predator and victim\n• Psychological control and influence\n• DV awareness and support

DESCRIPTION:After experiencing sexual assault at her university campus\, Florence (Flo) struggles with the lasting impacts it has had on her life\, including her loved ones. Advocating for herself comes with significant challenges\, as her relationships with others have been irrevocably changed. \nThe cataclysm of sexual violence begins to unearth the unsettling prevalence of male violence in each character’s lives as they attempt to maintain a sense of normal\, unravelling in a surrealist setting. \nThe audience are placed within the world of the play\, creating a bystander effect. Forcing the audience to observe the dilemma of what happens next when we have been affected by male violence\, causing a ripple effect through our community. Audiences are voyeurs to the external and internal struggles of the characters. \nIn a reality where the number of women and gender-diverse people killed in so-called Australia goes up almost weekly\, experience the raw complexity of being human with Autonomy of Flo(w)’s World Premiere staging\, asking: Male violence – what happens after?

A time when queerness lived in whispers and survival meant silence. \nThrough the Tinikling Devising Methodology\, drawn from Tinikling\, a Filipino folk dance of rhythm\, near-miss\, repetition\, risk and grace\, the story rises from the body first\, then memory\, then meaning. \nA work about hiding\, molting\, and the wings we grow when we finally stop running. \nDeveloped during a 2023 Vitalstatistix Adhocracy residency in Port Adelaide. \nWorld premiere. And for Roman Berry\, a return to the stage after years away to tell the story he’s spent a lifetime avoiding. \nLupad to Fly is part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2026.

SUMMARY:Melbourne Gay Mens 40+ Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group! \nMy name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so\, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured\, supported\, and acknowledged. \nAs we transition into a different phase of life\, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief\, from my own experience\, that some of these are directly\, but not exclusively\, tied to our sexuality and how that can influence self-actualisation later in life. \nSome of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren’t as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love\, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn’t follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result\, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief. \nIf any of this resonates with you\, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. DESCRIPTION:After experiencing sexual assault at her university campus\, Florence (Flo) struggles with the lasting impacts it has had on her life\, including her loved ones. Advocating for herself comes with significant challenges\, as her relationships with others have been irrevocably changed. \nThe cataclysm of sexual violence begins to unearth the unsettling prevalence of male violence in each character’s lives as they attempt to maintain a sense of normal\, unravelling in a surrealist setting. \nThe audience are placed within the world of the play\, creating a bystander effect. Forcing the audience to observe the dilemma of what happens next when we have been affected by male violence\, causing a ripple effect through our community. Audiences are voyeurs to the external and internal struggles of the characters. \nIn a reality where the number of women and gender-diverse people killed in so-called Australia goes up almost weekly\, experience the raw complexity of being human with Autonomy of Flo(w)’s World Premiere staging\, asking: Male violence – what happens after?
