Event Description

Re-experience an historic walk that follows the path taken by a major indigenous leader of the Wurundjeri people in 1938.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Easy, approximately 10 km, point-to-point walk on flat paths with public transport connections.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: William Cooper was an inspiring indigenous leader whose public advocacy of justice for the Aboriginal people of Australia commenced on a soap box on the banks of the Yarra River in the 1920’s.

He founded the Aboriginal Advancement League from his home in Footscray.

This walk will trace his historic and powerful walk on the 6th December 1938 from his home, to the then German Consulate in Collins St.
