Join us as veteran gay rights activist and academic Dennis Altman and acerbic millennial author Patrick Lenton bring their generational perspectives to a dissection of the current state of our queer nation. Since the publication of his first book “Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation” in 1971, Dennis Altman has written more than a dozen books and countless essays on the seismic changes in LGBTIQA communities and global politics over the past 50 years. Journalist and author, Patrick Lenton blends sharp social observation with insights on modern queer identity and life in his non-fiction writing (“Uncle Hercules and other lies” short stories (“Sexy Tales of Paleontology”) and most recently his debut novel “In Spite of You”.

Eastern Diversity Group (EDG) is a social support group for anyone aged 15-25 who is LGBTIQA+, or questioning! Join the Australian Queer Archives and Thorne Harbour Health for a vibrant journey through St Kilda’s LGBTQIA+ history as part of Midsumma Festival!  Guided by a fabulous local queer historian, this immersive walking tour explores the landmarks, venues, and stories that shaped St Kilda’s queer past and continue to influence its present. Along the way, you’ll visit sites of LGBTIQ+ significance including the Victorian Pride Centre, Pride March route, Ritz Hotel, El Sombrero, Mandate, Queerways Murals, and more. Much of our route will be guided by the AQA's collection, community stories and THH's own legacy in the area, connecting heritage and community memory with today’s celebrations.  This isn’t your regular walk - it’s an engaging experience that celebrates resilience, connection, and diversity, while spotlighting the legacy of queer spaces and culture in one of Melbourne’s most iconic suburbs.  Tour begin at 5:30 PM at the Victorian Pride Centre and runs for approximately 1.5 hours. Participants are encouraged to bring sturdy shoes, water, and sun protection. Come with friends, or join solo and meet new people along the way - this event is as much about community as it is about history.  Accessibility: The tour takes mostly outdoors and includes some narrow footpaths. What was life like for LGBTIQA+ young people in the past?

How did LGBTIQA+ young people meet each other in the past, without social media, smart phones, LGBTIQA+ youth groups or the internet? What was life like for LGBTIQA+ young people before the decriminalisation of homosexuality, the availability of gender affirming healthcare or the legalisation of gay marriage? What protests did LGBTIQA+ young people go to? What parties did they have? What did they wear and what music did they listen to? How much have things changed (or not) for LGBTIQA+ young people over time? Did they teach you any LGBTIQA+ history at school? Would you like to find out more? If you're an LGBTIQA+ person aged between 16-25 living in or around Naarm/Melbourne (or could travel there) join us for a workshop on LGBTIQA+ Youth Histories. Each workshop features storytelling and craft activities with archival and historical materials. These are opportunities to explore LGBTIQA+ stories from the past, meet other LGBTIQA+ young people, have fun making stuff and contribute to a research project exploring what LGBTIQA+ young people think about LGBTIQA+ history today. Workshops are facilitated by a group of researchers who work on topics linked to gender and sexuality: Daniel Marshall (Adelaide University), Mary Lou Rasmussen (Australian National University), Timothy Jones (La Trobe University), Tinonee Pym (Adelaide University) and Alistair Ott (Australian National University). This project has been reviewed and approved by the UniSA Research Ethics Committee (206041). Presented with the support of the Australian Queer Archives. Workshops are free to attend, snacks are provided and you’ll receive a $50 voucher.

As part of the Midsumma season, join us for a creative session that invites participants to explore self-expression through making their own zine. The workshop will include a short discussion about the role of zines in TGDNB culture, guided prompts to develop a one-off zine idea, and hands-on time to create a unique, palm-sized eight-page zine to take home. About the Facilitors: Madison Moffat (She/Her) is a trans woman and Managing Editor of the TGDNB culture zine ‘The Trans-creator’. She loves joining with fellow queer people to conduct writing workshops as part of the TransCreatives Network. Madison is passionate about communal storytelling and information sharing. She is a Trans-femme Peer Educator with Thorne Harbour Health, a Presenter and Content Producer for 3CR’s Queering the Air and Trans-creator Radio Show ; as well as the presenter of C31’s Bent TV: Trans-creative Connections show. As we are human, so we are creative. Down with professionalism! You are trans enough. You are creative enough. Remy Savage (He/Him/They) is a gender queer creative, storyteller and broadcaster. They are a Content Producer and Presenter for 3CR’s Trans-creator Radio Show, and a co-facilitator of all things Trans-creator and TransCreatives Network related. They have run stalls for a range of queer market events, and if you have a queer-themed knitted figurine in your house then chances are it was made by either Remy or one of their colleagues. As well as helping out Madison with the Trans-creator zine, Remy is experienced in the art of storytelling, including occasional zine creation.

9 WEEK ARTS PROGRAM Build confidence in a range of artistic styles and techniques while exploring themes of identity, queer history, and self-expression. Develop your personal artistic voice in a supportive environment that celebrates LGBTQIA+ creativity. Guided by an experienced art teacher, this class is perfect for anyone looking to build a portfolio that reflects their personal journey—whether for further study, career pathways, or creative growth. This is a Learn Local course. Learn Local (ACFE) funded places are available for those looking to upskill, explore new career paths, return to study, or volunteer, regardless of prior training or employment status. Our regular monthly social night - this month at the Arcadia Hotel. GRADE: Social. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The Nomads hold a social night each month, where members and guests can enjoy a meal, talk about upcoming events, compare notes on past activities and float ideas on events they would like to see run. Dementia Australia: Staying Connected in Pride morning tea provides an opportunity to connect and learn more about the support and upcoming initiatives at Dementia Australia, including the LGBT+ online hub in partnership with ACON, intended to improve access to inclusive, affirming information and support for people affected by dementia. There is a ramp down to the beach which is rather steep in parts. Beach walk is graded 2: easy subject to tides. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Enjoy a pleasant clothes-free beach day, with a leisurely lunch and swim. The event date may be changed to Sunday 8 February if that has a better weather forecast. Optional activities include body surfing in a moderate surf and beach walk to the rocky Jarosite Headland. A beach game or two will also be enjoyed. At the conclusion of the walk, there will be an optional cliff top walk or visit to another local beach followed by dinner at a local popular Thai or Chinese restaurant in Torquay.

Fresh off the huge success of the inaugural 2025 Proud Mary, we're thrilled to announce it's back from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday 7 February. Proud Mary is all about celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of the LGBTIQA+ community, and we're rolling out a massive welcome to allies too. If you've ever wanted a fun, safe, joyful space to enjoy sport and community, this is it. For far too long, many LGBTIQA+ people have felt that sport isn't a safe place due to ongoing discrimination. Events like Proud Mary are helping rewrite that story in Melboune's north-east - creative a space where everyone can play, connect and feel at home. Get ready for an awesome afternoon of games, social tennis, a sizzling barbecue lunch and plenty of prizes.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities are invited to attend an Auslan-interpreted guided tour to learn about the Victorian Pride Centre's award-winning architecture, its resident organisations, bookable spaces, and events calendar while also having an opportunity to explore the Pride Gallery and Hares and Hyenas bookshop.   Note that all parts of the tour are accessible by wheelchair.

Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group! My name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured, supported, and acknowledged. As we transition into a different phase of life, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief, from my own experience, that some of these are directly, but not exclusively, tied to our sexuality and how that can influence self-actualisation later in life. Some of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren’t as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn’t follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief. If any of this resonates with you, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. That, in of itself, can be extremely healing. The group is not a substitute for therapy, but a safe space to share and connect with others on a similar journey and to find inspiration. The group is specifically targeted to gay men who are aged 40+ due to the topics covered. Due to the limitations of the space and the need to keep it intimate, there is a maximum of 10 attendees.

Eastern Diversity Group (EDG) is a social support group for anyone aged 15-25 who is LGBTIQA+, or questioning! EDG is a safe place for you to be yourself, it is a great way to make some friends, try new things and eat some free food. Participants are involved in developing what activities or events are organised in each Term. We meet weekly on Thursdays 3:00pm-4:45pm (during school Term) in Box Hill. Come worship at the altar of divas! A photographic collaboration with queer femmes and the sun. Harmonising the channel of cyanotype as both ritual and process, the work explores the act of queer self-portraiture as a radical practice of self-reclamation and embodied power, honouring the sacred Queer Femme. Queer femmes are an essential part of the ecosystem that sustains our community. In their diversity, strength, and fluidity, they embody the resilience of those who move through the world with quiet yet powerful grace. These femmes, whether seen or unseen, hold the layers of both defiance and tenderness that make them extraordinary forces of nature. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Brontë is an Artist , Doula and Creatrix dreaming and swimming on Kombumerri/Yugambeh Country (Gold Coast). Brontë’s practice is rooted in pleasure as a guiding force — pleasure in colour, in connection, in imagination, in the act of creating itself. Brontë’s works emerge as dreamscapes that blur the edges of the present with visions of the future, saging what is to come and allowing it to blend into the here and now. These dreamscapes invite audiences to soften, to feel, and to open to the possibilities of a life infused with sacred rage, wildness, beauty and joy. Working across video, text, textiles, and sound, she layers mediums to create kaleidoscopic worlds of sensation and presence. Recent collaborations with holistic and spiritual healers have expanded her explorations into colour therapy, grounding audiences while also shifting their energy toward vibrancy and renewal. Brontë’s work often turns toward birth — both literal and metaphorical. As a doula, she honours the thresholds of all birthing people, and within her art practice she explores birth as a continual process of becoming: the seeds of pregnancy and gestation, the birthing of ideas, communities, chosen families, and futures. She infuses her practice with the magic of femme queer ways of knowing, bringing softness, play, camp revelry and power into every layer of her work. Her art is therefore not only about representation but about transformation — an embodied reminder that every act of creation is a form of arrival. With influences from her work as a doula, DJ, and curator of gatherings/experiences, Brontë extends her practice beyond the gallery into collective spaces of celebration, healing, and play. At its heart, her work is an exploration of how art-making can open portals — dreamscapes that teach us to live more pleasurably, more connected, and more attuned to the futures we are already calling into being. A new art installation developed through conversations and creative exchange with LGBTQIA+ community members in Kingston. Bringing together photography, sound and text, the exhibition reflects on how we experience and express identity — through our bodies, relationships, and the environments we move through. The work creates a quiet, immersive space that considers visibility, care, and the subtle ways we hold one another in community. Developed collaboratively, the work responds to lived experience in Kingston while continuing the artist's broader interest in portraiture, intimacy and the textures of queer life. ABOUT THE ARTIST: David Rosetzky is an artist based in Naarm/Melbourne whose cross-disciplinary practice spans photography, video, installation and collaboration. His work explores identity, intimacy and LGBTQIA+ representation through layered, experimental processes. Rosetzky has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally, and his works are held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Australian Photography. He has undertaken significant commissions, most notably his 2008 video portrait of Cate Blanchett for the National Portrait Gallery. Known for his nuanced, collaborative approach to contemporary portraiture, he continues to develop projects at the intersection of visual art, performance and community. Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group! My name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured, supported, and acknowledged. As we transition into a different phase of life, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief, from my own experience, that some of these are directly, but not exclusively, tied to our sexuality and how that can influence self-actualisation later in life. Some of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren’t as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn’t follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief. If any of this resonates with you, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. That, in of itself, can be extremely healing. The group is not a substitute for therapy, but a safe space to share and connect with others on a similar journey and to find inspiration. The group is specifically targeted to gay men who are aged 40+ due to the topics covered. Due to the limitations of the space and the need to keep it intimate, there is a maximum of 10 attendees.
