SUMMARY:Stan Munro in conversation with William Brougham
DESCRIPTION:Life’s too short not to shine\, darling so grab your heels\, your crown\, and your courage\, and get ready to strut. \nJoin former Les Girls compere and star of Alvin Purple Dame Stan Munro on Saturday March 21st at Hares & Hyenas at 2pm as he discusses his colourful and flamboyant new autobiography ‘Stan Munro: Secrets of a Showbiz Dame’ with his co-author William Brougham. Stan will share some of his juicy and at times solacious insights into his life from his humble beginnings in the Welsh valleys to working with some of the best legs in the business at the glamourous Les Girls in Sydney and Melbourne. \nWhich famous British actor did Stan have a summer fling with in England? Which world-famous female impersonator did Stan have a love/hate relationship with? Who did Stan love and not love working with? How did he get his role in Alvin Purple? How did Stan go from the bright lights of living in Melbourne and Sydney to living a quieter life in the Northern Rivers? Stan will attempt to answer all these questions and more at Hares & Hyenas. Books will also be on sale which Stan will gladly sign.

SUMMARY:Midsumma 2023 at VPC - Archive Armour
DESCRIPTION:Join hosts from the Australian Queer Archives and Transgender Victoria and special guest ‘accidental archivist’ and trans icon\, Julie Peters\, on a creative and interactive journey through queer and trans histories and community archives. \n“The ability to see yourself in the past is essential to forming a sense of belonging in the world\,” Archie Barry wrote in 2018. “It seems now I’ve naturally fallen into a role that many queer and gender diverse people fall into: that of informal researcher. We silently hoard content – URLs\, zines\, ads\, pamphlets\, stickers\, mp3s\, books\, posters – to build a personalised buffer\, a kind of archive armour\, between the self and the cis-hetero world.” \nWith increasing transphobia in Australia and abroad\, and ongoing attempts to divide queer people\, it is an important time for queer and trans communities to build this armour both as individuals and as a community united in solidarity. \nTogether\, we will search through our communities’ histories to find queer and trans care\, hope\, and joy. Your hosts will share their own archivist origin stories\, introduce you to some of their favourite objects and collections\, and help you to get started on your own quests to find and build your own archive armour using the extensive Australian Queer Archives and more collections. \nThis session will be a mix of presentation and low-key interactive small group exercises\, so come ready to share and participate as much as you feel comfortable doing so. \nCo-presented by the Australian Queer Archives and the Victorian Pride Centre
