In this workshop\, you’ll learn the fundamentals of leatherworking while creating your own unique and sustainable leather pouch. \nUsing 100% repurposed leather\, you’ll be guided through all aspects of this project\, from creating the initial pattern\, to stitching and embellishing\, to create your own one-of-a-kind leather pouch that reflects your personal style. \nLeather is a very durable and useful material. There’s rarely a reason to throw leather away! Learning how to make a simple purse is a great step in realising the wider potential of repurposing leather to get the very most out of the long lifecycle of this material.

DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered how to jump start a car or change a tyre? \nFuse blown but don’t know where to look? \nGot somewhere to go but need a tow? \nLearn the skills you need to get moving again! \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like\nminded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nWhat will we cover?\nIn this class we cover: \n– How to check and change basic electrical components (fuses an lights) \n– How to change a tyre \n– How to jump start\, push start and how to safely tow a vehicle. \nThis is a safe space for all and all questions are welcome (no such thing as a silly question!) \nWho will be teaching?\nRicho (he/they) is a DIY car maintenance enthusiast and enjoys tinkering in the garage at home. He has had many years experience working with vehicles through his work including outback tour guiding\, bus driving\, truck driving and now works in conservation and bushland management. \nMany hours in remote areas away from roadside assistance has lead Richo to be handy with tools and developed his vehicle trouble shooting\, repair and recovery skills.

DESCRIPTION:Inclusivity is fun! So is drawing! Come along and join this casual\, beginner friendly queer social art class where you can relax\, mingle and learn some life drawing skills. By inclusivity\, we mean celebrating diverse bodies\, but also diverse artists with any range of experience – even if you’ve never done any drawing before\, this class is for you. \nNo art experience required – just come and have a wonderful time! \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nThis is part class\, part queer social\, so there will be time both for drawing and for meeting like-minded queer pals in a relaxed environment. The class portions will feature our model Fern doing a range of short poses\, with instruction on easy tips to help beginners get used to life drawing\, and more experienced artists to expand their style. We’ll be focussing on enjoying the experience of drawing and celebrating how cool the human body is in all its forms over creating perfect artworks. There’s no such thing as a bad drawing. \nAll materials provided. \nWho will be Teaching?\nRobin French (they/them) is a British storyboard artist and illustrator who has been living in Melbourne for 2 years. They have worked on a wide range of animated TV shows for clients like Disney and Netflix\, and during their personal practise they create art and comics inspired by nature and queer experiences. We give you the info and tools you want and need to nurture healthful\, stigma-and-shame-free\, satisfying sexual lives\, supported with healthy intimate relationships\, and founded on self-empowerment – and we make it fun and interactive. We affirm queerness and make it safe\, and want you to be fearless about your sexual and relationship well-being. \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nIn this 75-minute class\, we centre relationship and sex education that is diverse in nature and queer-inclusive. We tear down heteronormativity\, the gender binary\, and ‘preferred’ social attitudes\, behaviours\, expectations and structures that are considered ‘the default’\, and that devalue queer and LGBTQIA+ existence. \nFoundations first – we explore our sexual anatomies and physiology\, and the distinctions between sex and gender.\nThen it’s time to get sexy – sexual\, romantic\, emotional and relational identities\, diversity and fluidity; sexual arousal\, responses and behaviours.\nWe finish with brief info about: sexual\, gender and relationship stigmas\, shame and challenges; sexually transmitted diseases\, and sexual coercion and assault.\nThroughout the class\, we will do our best to engage with any and all of your questions. We intend to place an emphasis on love\, healthy communication\, boundaries\, respect and trust (with yourself and with others); empowering yourself with queer-centred relationship and sex ed; and the awesomeness (and difficulties) of embracing queer life. \nWho will be teaching?\nDaz (he/they) and Rosie (she/they) are co-facilitators of Sex Space workshops and events! In doing so he ended up showing at the Linden Gallery as part of the Postcard Show\, at Queer My Head show at the Dax Centre as part of Midsumma which had a huge impact on him and more recently the Men on Men show at the Laird. Now he is starting to share his love of collage with others to help them realise the possibilities.

SUMMARY:Queer Social: Finding Your Voice – Intro to Singing with Alex
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a voice! And so many of us enjoy singing to ourselves\, in the shower\, and along to the car stereo. But somehow we can also be really self-conscious about how we sound and about singing in front of others. \nSo how do we learn more about singing and the voice outside of formal music lessons? Finding Your Voice: An Intro to Singing with Alex is how. \nThis class is designed for those who love to sing for themselves and who want to know a little more about how the voice works\, how to develop vocal skills and how to maintain vocal health. This highly interactive class provides an introduction to basic vocal skills and techniques to provide you with an insight into the human voice as well as exercises to further develop your singing skills! \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nThis interactive class will use a series of exercises and activities to get us singing and unpacking the anatomy and functionality of the human voice. \nWhat will you need?\nJust yourself \nAccessibility\nWheelchair Accessible Venue\nGender Neutral Bathrooms\nEarly Bird Discounted Tickets\nFree Tickets to First Nation Attendees\nAuslan Interpreted Upon Request \nWho will be teaching? \nAlex (he/him) completed a Bachelor of Music (Composition)
 at the University of Western Australia in 2009. Since then he has been active working with orchestras\, arts companies and festivals currently holding the position of General Manager with the Stonnington Symphony. \nAlex is the former Music Director of Vocal Evolution\, leading them to three Barbershop Harmony Australia (BHA) gold medals. Since moving to Melbourne\, Alex has taken on the role of Music Director with Geelong Harmony Chorus (Sweet Adelines Australia) as well as Music Director of shoUT Youth Chorus and Shania Choir. \nPerforming regularly as Bae Marie\, Alex has used queer performance art to developed interactive experiences for children and adults alike.

DESCRIPTION:Collage isn’t new\, it been around for thousands of years. But collage can allow us to be kids again. Think outside of the square and construct imaginary worlds\, scenarios and even poetry. Starting off early in his 20s as a fashion designer Yianni ran his own label and even showed at Australian Fashion Week. During the pandemic he discovered his love of collage and how that could help him clear his mind. In doing so he ended up showing at the Linden Gallery as part of the Postcard Show\, at Queer My Head show at the Dax Centre as part of Midsumma which had a huge impact on him and more recently the Men on Men show at the Laird. Now he is starting to share his love of collage with others to help them realise the possibilities.

DESCRIPTION:Come and learn how to sew your own adorable elephant plushie! Choose your own colours and create a unique or personalised look. \nIn this workshop you will learn how to work with felt – a lovely tactile and versatile fabric. Sewing is also a wonderful way to slow down\, unwind\, and have some pleasant focused craft time. \nAll materials included in this workshop – just come and have a wonderful time! \nPlease let us know if larger-sized needles can help you with fine motor skills. \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nIn this fun\, hands on workshop you will learn how to: \nFollow a sewing pattern for a 3D toy\nHand sew basic stitches\nWork using felt\nUse stuffing when creating soft toys\nDecorate your elephant friend\nCreate a plush toy! \nWho will be teaching?\nRobert (he/they) is a queer engineer. They clearly don’t express enough creativity in their day job so by night goes by their alter ego ‘ART FIEND’. \nRobert believes that art is for everyone and focuses value on the process more than the outcome. They love sewing because its tactile nature is really good for mental health and de-stressing.

SUMMARY:Queer Social: Watercolour Galaxy Painting with River
DESCRIPTION:Do you lay in bed on cold Thursday mornings and think “I would love to have a galaxy of my own. To have\, to hold\, to stare at with the ones I love on a rainy night”? Well this class will show you how to create that galaxy you so long for and dream of. \nWe will practice the art of DIY stencilling\, using some very common objects and some substances you may not expect\, to create a deep cosmic centrepiece like the image featured in this ad. \nAll we need is the imagination inside our lovely brains\, watercolour paint\, and the madness of the method.\nWe hope to see your mysterious galaxy come to life! \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nThis is a hands on workshop where you’ll go home with your own galaxy painting to decorate your walls. \nTogether we will explore:\nHow to work with stencils\nHow to work with watercolour paints and layers\nHow to add stars and details\nAll materials will be supplied. \nWho will be Teaching?\nRiver is a 31 year old Australian Non Binary visual artist from European + First Nations ancestry. Born + raised on Wongai Country in Laverton + Kalgoorlie\, they currently live on unceded Wurundjeri Willum Biik in Naarm. River experiments with sculpture\, printing\, mosaic and mixed media painting around themes of connection to country\, memory\, and identity.

SUMMARY:Queer Social: Inclusive Life Drawing with Robin
DESCRIPTION:Inclusivity is fun! So is drawing! Come along and join this casual\, beginner friendly queer social art class where you can relax\, mingle and learn some life drawing skills. By inclusivity\, we mean celebrating diverse bodies\, but also diverse artists with any range of experience – even if you’ve never done any drawing before\, this class is for you. \nNo art experience required – just come and have a wonderful time! \nThis event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun\, educational and interactive workshop. \nAll workshops are taught by queers\, for queers. \nWhat will we cover?\nThis is part class\, part queer social\, so there will be time both for drawing and for meeting like-minded queer pals in a relaxed environment. The class portions will feature our model Fern doing a range of short poses\, with instruction on easy tips to help beginners get used to life drawing\, and more experienced artists to expand their style. We’ll be focussing on enjoying the experience of drawing and celebrating how cool the human body is in all its forms over creating perfect artworks.
