LGBTIQ+ young people with cancer

About

Being Ok… Being You is a 60 page A5 guide developed in collaboration with young people and the ONTrac at Peter Mac Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service. The content is based on interviews with young people who have had a cancer diagnosis and identify as LGBTIQ+, or who are still working out their sexuality and gender identity. The interviews demonstrated that young people who identify as LGBTIQ+ experience a lack of information and support in the cancer setting, and face the very real possibility of feeling invisible and not having their needs met. Young people were involved in the development at every step of the way, and it is their hope that this resource will provide information to support other young people who identify as LGBTIQ+ and have cancer so they feel safe, seen, heard and know that they matter.

This guide is funded by the Victorian Government through the Healthy Equal Youth program.

It is available in hardcopy (c/o the ONTrac at Peter Mac Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service – 8559 6898) or online at www.petermac.org/beingokbeingyou
