SUMMARY:Industry Insights Series - Inclusion Isn't Done: Being LGBTIQA+ at Work
DESCRIPTION:Policies have been developed. Training programs have been rolled out. Commitments have been made. So why are we still having this conversation? \nBecause workplace inclusion isn’t a box to tick. It’s an ongoing commitment that requires action\, accountability and a willingness to keep learning. \nJoin us at the Victorian Pride Centre for the first session of Industry Insights\, a series of conversations bringing together professionals\, industry leaders\, community organisations and allies to explore the challenges\, opportunities and ideas shaping more inclusive workplaces and communities. \nInclusion Isn’t Done: Being LGBTQ+ at Work will take a closer look at the reality of LGBTQ+ inclusion in today’s workplaces. While progress has been made\, barriers remain\, and there’s still work to do to ensure everyone feels safe\, valued and empowered to thrive at work. \nThrough an engaging panel discussion\, we’ll hear from workplace leaders\, inclusion practitioners and community voices as they share their experiences\, challenge assumptions and explore what genuinely makes a difference. \nWhat we’ll explore\n\nWhere are we now? What does current workplace data tell us about LGBTQ+ inclusion\, and how far have we really come?\nWhat’s working? Exploring the initiatives\, practices and cultural changes that have made a meaningful impact.\nWhat’s holding us back? Identifying the barriers that continue to affect LGBTQ+ employees and their experiences at work.\nWhat’s next? Moving beyond policies and good intentions towards meaningful\, lasting change.\n\nMore than just a panel discussion\nIndustry Insights is about more than sharing ideas. It’s about building connections\, encouraging collaboration and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another. \nFollowing the panel discussion and audience Q&A\, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fellow professionals\, community leaders and advocates through structured networking and informal conversations. \nWhether you’re an LGBTQ+ professional\, a workplace leader\, an HR or diversity and inclusion practitioner\, a community advocate or an ally looking to make a difference\, this event is an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives\, share experiences and be part of the conversation. \nBecause inclusion isn’t done\, and progress happens when we keep the conversation going.

SUMMARY:Colourful Queer Futures - Wear it Purple Day Panel
DESCRIPTION:Wear It Purple Day exists to show young LGBTIQA+ people they have a future worth looking forward to – Queer Futures. \nThis panel brings together LGBTIQA+ community members who are actively building the future they once couldn’t see for themselves. At the centre of that story is ballroom culture: a community that created its own world\, its own language\, and its own future when the mainstream refused to make space. \nFrom the ballroom floor to advocacy\, art\, and beyond\, our panellists will share what it means to imagine a queer future and then go and build it. The event asks one simple question: What does your queer future look like? \nJoin us at the Victorian Pride Centre this August for an honest\, celebratory\, and community-led conversation about where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. \nBecause every young LGBTIQA+ person deserves to see their future clearly. This event is presented in partnership with Endeavour Group.

SUMMARY:Marriage Equality and Resurgent Prejudice in Australia: Guest Speaker Janet Rice
DESCRIPTION:Join the launch of Marriage Equality and Resurgent Prejudice in Australia with authors James Bennett and David Betts\, along with former Greens Senator Janet Rice as Guest Speaker. Hosted by Nick Henderson\, Australian Queer Archives collections manager. \nIn 2017\, Australia finally said “yes” to marriage equality—but the story didn’t end there. \nMarriage Equality and Resurgent Prejudice in Australia traces what happened after the celebrations faded. Drawing on in‑depth interviews with the rainbow community in Newcastle and the Hunter region\, James Bennett and David Betts reveal how legal victory coexisted with renewed hostility\, subtle exclusions\, and emboldened reactionary politics. \nIntroducing the concept of resurgent prejudice\, the book shows how gains in sexual citizenship can trigger new forms of backlash—from everyday encounters to organised campaigns around “religious freedom” and anti-gender movements. \nRichly grounded in local voices yet sharply attuned to national debates\, this is a vital account of life after marriage equality—and a warning about the unfinished work of LGBTQ+ justice in contemporary Australia. \nLimited physical copies of the book will be available\, with an ebook also available.

SUMMARY:Yeah the Boys – Holden Sheppard in conversation with Richard Watts
DESCRIPTION:Join Hares and Hyenas for a discussion and book signing to celebrate the release of Holden Sheppard’s new novel Yeah The Boys. \nAward-winning Western Australian author Holden Sheppard returns to the world of his bestselling debut Invisible Boys with Yeah the Boys: a bold\, propulsive new novel about male friendship\, masculinity\, modern gay life and being a closeted gay male AFL player. Unapologetic and unforgettable\, this latest release is Sheppard at the height of his powers. \nRaw\, brash and fiercely tender\, Yeah the Boys is the story of three young men finding their way back to each other – and discovering their own complicated ways of becoming men. This new novel is the rebellious older brother to Invisible Boys\, moving decisively into adult terrain. The characters are now in their mid-twenties\, navigating sex\, money\, drugs\, fame\, politics and the messy realities of city life. It is Holden Sheppard’s most provocative and hard-edged book yet. \n‘A shout in the night and a shot in the arm of a book… a reverent depiction of gay culture\, masculinity and the men that boys become\, warts and all.’ – James Acker\, author of The Long Run
