SUMMARY:From Grindr to Blindr
DESCRIPTION:Go on an unforgettable date with Karan Nagrani\, aka That Blind Guy – keynote speaker\, content creator\, disability advocate\, and yes\, a blind influencer (who knew that was a thing?). With his tagline “Pretty Fly for a Blind Guy”\, Karan takes you on a journey that’s hilarious\, heartbreaking\, and deeply human.  \nWhat’s it like coming out – not once\, not twice\, but three times as a blind\, gay person of colour? It’s not a journey for the faint-hearted\, but Karan walks it with courage\, sass\, and a wicked sense of humour.  \nA born storyteller and natural comedian\, Karan brings unfiltered honesty to everything he does – whether he’s speaking to packed events or cracking jokes on Instagram. His story of gradually losing his sight is raw and real: how would you cope knowing your world was slowly fading to black?  But this isn’t just a story of loss –  it’s one of transformation. Emerging from the shadows of vision loss and mental health struggles\, Karan has become a passionate voice for inclusion and disability rights\, shaking up stereotypes and challenging what it means to truly see people.  \nNamed Community Ambassador for Midsumma Festival (2024\, 2025 and 2026)\, ChillOut Festival Ambassador (2023)\, and Darwin Pride Ambassador (2024)\, Karan is on a mission to make the LGBTQIA+ community more accessible\, inclusive\, and kind.  \nSo… ready for a date you won’t forget?

SUMMARY:Generations Queer: Homosexual Liberations
DESCRIPTION:Join us as veteran gay rights activist and academic Dennis Altman and acerbic millennial author Patrick Lenton bring their generational perspectives to a dissection of the current state of our queer nation. \nSince the publication of his first book “Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation” in 1971\, Dennis Altman has written more than a dozen books and countless essays on the seismic changes in LGBTIQA communities and global politics over the past 50 years. \nJournalist and author\, Patrick Lenton blends sharp social observation with insights on modern queer identity and life in his non-fiction writing (“Uncle Hercules and other lies” short stories (“Sexy Tales of Paleontology”) and most recently his debut novel “In Spite of You”.

DESCRIPTION:Absurdist Cabaret meets feathered chaos.  \nAbsolutely fowl. Utterly unhinged.  \nAdore Händel\, Penelope Splendour and Mae B. Wilde fling feathers\, flesh\, and foolishness in equal measure\, serving up a variety show that’s stripped back and entirely uncooked. Expect burlesque\, ballads\, beats and beaks in a fast-paced\, feather-ruffling romp.  \nThere’s no plot\, no morals\, just poultry in motion. Prepare to be whisked from from sultry stripteases to barnyard belters\, each act messier and more magnificent than the last. Perfect for hen’s nights\, date nights\, or anyone who likes their cabaret a little scrambled\, this show pairs beautifully with champagne\, bad decisions\, and a bucket of wings.   \nCome for the feathers and stay for the filth. You’ll leave clucking\, cackling\, and craving more.

SUMMARY:Generations Queer: Up the Lezzos
DESCRIPTION:“Up the Lezzos!” was the triumphant cry of a newly out Kate Rowe as she was thrown into a paddy wagon at the first Mardi Gras. Fifty years later she would launch her memoir How the Fuck Would I Know? at Qtopia\, which now occupies the police station where she was once locked up. That book would document a life full of unexpected turns\, from a lavender marriage to help a gay friend in need\, healing from addiction\, finding her strength through extreme sports and learning the ukulele. \nNick Henderson\, historian\, researcher and collections manager at the Australian Queer Archives will host a discussion with Kate on the personal and political changes in lesbian life since that charged night in 1978.

SUMMARY:Queer Youth Histories Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:QUEER YOUTH HISTORIES \nA panel conversation about growing up LGBTIQA+ over time \nThe past fifty years has seen profound changes in the everyday lives of many LGBTIQA+ young people. The 1970s saw growing activist struggles for LGBTIQA+ youth rights\, and today there is more recognition\, rights and representation of LGBTIQA+ young people than ever before. But what do we know about these different historical experiences of people growing up LGBTIQA+? What was life like for LGBTIQA+ young people before the decriminalisation of homosexuality\, the availability of gender affirming healthcare or the legalisation of gay marriage? How did LGBTIQA+ young people meet each other in the past\, without social media\, smart phones\, or the internet? What experiences are common across the generations\, and what’s different?  \nYou are invited to come along to Queer Youth Histories – a panel conversation about growing up LGBTIQA+ over time – to learn about some people’s diverse experiences\, and to reflect on what is gained by learning about these histories\, and what is lost when these histories are suppressed or neglected. \nJoin us to celebrate the publication of the new book which draws together accounts of growing up queer from people born in the 1970s and 1990s\, Queer Generations: LGBTQ Growing Up\, Belonging and Sexual Citizenship (Marshall et al.\, Bloomsbury\, 2025).  The book will be launched by Joe Ball\, the Victorian Commissioner for LGBTIQA+ Communities.  \nThis event will also be an opportunity to learn more about our current research project exploring what LGBTIQA+ young people think about LGBTIQA+ history today\, and how young people (aged 16-25) can get involved in LGBTIQA+ Youth History workshops as part of this research at the Australian Queer Archives (queeryouthhistories.com). Joining the Commissioner will be a panel of queer social\, historical and cultural researchers\, including Daniel Marshall and Tinonee Pym (Adelaide University)\, Timothy Jones (La Trobe University)\, Mary Lou Rasmussen and Alistair Ott (Australian National University).  \n Come along for a lively Q&A about how growing up LGBTIQA+ has changed (and not) over time\, and what changes still need to happen! \n

SUMMARY:Coming Out For Christmas
DESCRIPTION:A Greek and gay Christmas comedy presented by 5 actors as a live radio play with live music and sound effects. Performed in English.\n\n\n\nComing Out For Christmas is the story of twenty-something Alex who brings her Aussie girlfriend home for her family’s Christmas lunch and discovers her conservative family is hiding from everyone. A comedy about family\, community\, and living your truth. \nPerformed in 2022 to sold out audiences\, this is a story that celebrates a zany Greek-Aussie Christmas where family secrets collide with cultural expectations and unexpected guests threaten to blow up Alex’s chance at true love. \n“Navigating a Greek Christmas\, well any festive event within an ethnic community in Australia\, is joyous: there’s catching up with relatives\, family friends\, and of course there is the amazing traditional dishes that are less and less common everyday because they take days to cook” says writer and director Demetra Giannakopoulos “…throw in a queer couple and unexpressed anxiety about what the “rellos” think\, and well\, it’s either a comedy or will end in tears\, or both and everything in between. “ \nComing Out For Christmas resonates with anyone who’s ever tried to balance heritage\, community\, and authenticity. \nLove\, music\, laughter\, and tears– sounds like Christmas. \n\nComing Out For Christmas Live Audio play 2025

Everyone is encouraged to listen to their own body and move in a way that feels right for them. \nImportantly\, our classes are infused with a sense of play and light-heartedness. While yoga is often seen as serious or rigid\, we believe it can also be joyous\, playful and fun\, especially in Queer bodies and spaces. Expect gentle laughter\, moments of curiosity\, and permission to show up just as you are. \n\n\n\n\nTuesday 2nd September: \nYoga: A gentle\, grounding practice introducing the breath\, basic shapes\, and what it means to inhabit the body with presence. We’ll explore foundational principles while creating space for curiosity and play. \nMeditation: Body scan to anchor awareness and presence. \n\n\n\n\nTuesday 9th September: \nYoga: This session targets areas of tension with playful movements\, gentle stretching and guided breath. Participants are encouraged to explore what feels good\, rather than aiming for “perfection.” \nMeditation: Breath-focused meditation to soften holding patterns \n\n\n\n\nTuesday 16th September: \nYoga: Focusing on grounding and support\, this session helps create space in the lower body through simple sequences\, invitations to move with freedom\, and use of blocks. \nMeditation: Grounding meditation to connect with steadiness and inner support \n\n\n\n\nTuesday 23rd September: \nYoga: A slower\, nurturing practice that draws together elements from the previous weeks. Reflection\, rest and a sense of humour are all welcome here. \nMeditation: Loving-kindness meditation to close the series with compassion

SUMMARY:Castrati
DESCRIPTION:Kit Spencer explores the unlikely parallels between the male Castrato voice and the trans-male voice\, and poses the question: What if the transmasculine voice is just as remarkable as the Castrato?  \nAs a trans man\, Kit is especially conscious of the dearth of places where trans and gender diverse people can access vocal practice. He has particular interest in supporting those singers to find and embrace their voices and forge methodologies to creatively destabilise the intensely gender-constrained vocal traditions of the Western canon. He is continuing to explore this rich field\, this time by historical exploration through narrative performance.  \nLove Unheard is a company that support Queer artists find a voice and performance space.  In times of societal change\, art as a form of self-expression and activism is more important than ever.
