Trans Sisters United

About

Trans Sisters United (TSU) was built upon Sisterhood in a world that doesn’t welcome us. Our organisation was established to foster community where there was previously none, particularly focussing on supporting transgender women of colour and addressing cultural insensitivity.

Trans Sisters United was co-founded by Sasja Sÿdek, Miss Katalyna, and Rebeckah Loveday, three proud transgender women deeply inspired by a documentary film about The Sistergirls of Tiwi Islands, which they encountered at the Queer Melbourne Film Festival in 2019. Motivated by a desire to support The Sistergirls, they utilised their privilege to forge meaningful connections. In October 2019, Sasja and Rebeckah embarked on a journey to Tiwi Islands to meet The Sistergirls, returning again in February 2020 for a weekend immersed in their community, family, and village. This transformative experience evolved their initial connection into an activism-focused initiative, with Sasja assuming full responsibility for Trans Sisters United.

Trans Sisters United is a nonprofit organisation, by trans women for women, committed to developing initiatives that catalyse positive change for the transgender women, trans non-binary and women community. Our efforts revolve around advocacy, activism, awareness-raising, and fostering community collaboration. We prioritise creating a safe and inclusive space specifically for transgender women and women, acknowledging the unique ways both groups encounter misogyny.

Transgender women and women both face discrimination based on gender and transgender identity, leading to invalidation, inequality, and violence. Advocating for their equal rights is crucial to challenging the misogyny they encounter. At Trans Sisters United, we support both groups in a safe environment, aiming to empower and celebrate every woman. Our goal is to dismantle barriers and create a society that uplifts all women, regardless of gender identity.

Trans Sisters United is not an organisation that deals with crisis. We may not have the resources to meet your specific needs, but we are pleased to guide you to an organisation that could offer assistance.

We are registered as: Not-for-profit.
