Each year, communities around the world come together to acknowledge International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on May 17 – the date that homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organisation classification of diseases. Over three decades later, LGBTIQA+ communities still face discrimination – but every one of us can make a difference.

We welcome Yarra’s LGBTQIA+ community and allies to join us for a Mayoral flag raising and special screening of Ava Grimshaw-Hall’s award-winning short film While We Still Have Time.

This autobiographical documentary explores Ava’s journey to connect with her gay sperm donor father John as he battles an aggressive cancer. Together, they explore their unique bond, seeking understanding and closure amidst life’s uncertainties. The film is a beautiful celebration of intergenerational queer culture and history.

Stick around after the screening for a discussion with film subject John Hall, and some light refreshments.
