Nomads Outdoors Group – Greensborough to Heidelberg via Plenty & Yarra Rivers
June 7

A lovely walk from Greensborough Station, following the Plenty River downstream on a well formed trail skirting urban housing, parks and playing fields into Banyule parklands, leaving the main trail to follow mountain bike tracks following the river across some lovely open countryside to its exit into the Yarra, then taking the Yarra trail on to Heidelberg to catch a city-bound train homewards.
GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Grade 3: Medium 13 km walk (graded according to the AWTGS: Australian Walking Tracks Grading System). Mostly on well formed sealed walking/bike trails with odd little steep inclines. However, once we leave the main trail to follow mountain bike trails, there will be some more serious steep inclines to negotiate, necessitating good boots in event of slippery mud after any recent rains.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Meeting at 11am at the righthand ground-level exit of Greensborough Station, we follow the Plenty River downstream on a well formed trail skirting urban housing, parks and playing fields. Once past the Heidelberg Golf Club we enter Banyule parklands, and leave the beaten track, following mountain bike trails, looking for a suitable spot for a short alfresco lunch break. Keeping close to the Plenty River as much as possible, we walk across beautiful open countryside, to where it flows into the Yarra. Taking the green and leafy Main Yarra Trail we arrive at Burgundy Street, Heidelberg for an optional well earned post-event drink at the pub, before climbing up the hill to catch a city-bound train homewards.
