This event is a modern day ‘social experiment’ which aims to help its guests to better build their social skills and queer friendships within Melbourne, Australia.

Have you been feeling:

• A bit over spending time chatting on the gay ‘dating ‘apps only to find it doesn’t seem to really go anywhere.

• Like you don’t really ‘fit in’ at the gay dance parties; where a hooking up culture is the norm.

• Like you struggle with being good at being social and just wish there was a safe place where you could go to practice your social skills.

Well then if you said yes to any of the above…. Speed Mating is the right place for YOU!

Back after a short hiatus, Speed Mating has returned to its home at The Laird Hotel and wants to welcome you back into a safe space where all males (no matter if you are trans-gendered or cis-gendered) are welcome to join in the fun.

There will be plenty of informal activities and conversations on the night which will give us all the chance to get to know each other better. Each night will be different and the results may vary slightly. Hence the idea of this event being like a ‘social experiment’.

It’s also IMPORTANT for you to know that this event is NOT about hooking up or finding a date. It’s a platonic friendship driven event aiming to help YOU meet new people who actually want to be amongst community. For this reason; we need you behave accordingly on the night.

Who is your host for the night?

Their name is Morgan Fitzgerald and they are a gay, autistic, non-binary member of our shared LGBTQIA+ community.

Naturally leaning towards being shy themselves, they know how important it is to feel safe and supported during your time at Speed Mating. They will do everything they can to keep you smiling and feeling at ease.

It’s also super important to Morgan that you know that queer members from the neurodivergent community (eg. adhd, autism and more) are lovingly welcomed at this event. They will do their best to keep the space as sensory safe as possible.

And the venue, well it’s just great! Hosted in the back bar of The Laird Hotel; The Laird is one of Australia’s longest running gay-owned and operated venues. Formerly known as “Melbourne’s only bear and leather bar”, it progressed over the years to become a haven, meeting place and party space for same-sex attracted CIS and Trans males (of all ages) to hang out in.

Arrival Time:

Please arrive by no later than 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start.

Important:

If you would like to come along and cannot afford to pay the event admission, a very small handful of tickets will still be available for those who may be experiencing financial hardship. Please reach out to me using my Eventbrite profile if this is you and I will do my best to ensure you are able to join us.

Cancellations / Refund Requests:

We have a NO ticket cancellations or refunds policy. Refunds will only be considered on a case by case basis and require at least 24 hours notice to be considered.
