Visual & performing arts

Two people in costumes and clown/drag makeup. They both have large expressions on their face.

Democracy is falling apart at the seams.
Four states are ruled by foppish, vivacious drag-king Daddies, who work under the thumb of the elusive ‘Mummy’.
This State’s mining equipment is existentially depressed,
Which State is injecting their fish with oestrogen?
That State charges tolls for every step you take,
What State just approved a leg-breaking initiative to fill hospitals…
Look at the state of this place!

A young optimist named Flung embarks on a nationwide quest: handing out flyers isn’t getting anything done, Flung’s mother is nowhere to be found, and things are only getting worse by the minute. Through a series of increasingly absurd catastrophes, Flung teams up with a group of radical leftists called the Common Dog Fucks (CDF) to help. In the face of overlord Mummy and her ruling Daddies’ political clusterfuck, Flung and the CDF must get revolutionary to save their nation.

After a successful season at The Blue Room Theatre, Marli Jupiter and Rhi Bryan are bringing ‘The State’ across to Naarm; a brutally hilarious interrogation into the role of activism, protest and collective organisation in the face of failing governance at the end of capitalism.

Book your tickets now to experience phallic puppetry, glorious drag, and biting comedy that dissects the state of our nation like never before.
