Another Quiet Protest

14 ceramic sculptures all created uniquely by Alistair Fowler

Another Quiet Protest by Alistair Fowler, will be displayed in the Pride Gallery from 12th November 2025 – 8th January 2026. A powerful display that significantly explores Queer resilience and solidarity.

About the Exhibition:

Another Quiet Protest features ceramic figures representing micro-minorities within the queer community, responding to the global trend of diminishing trans rights. These figures stand as gentle warriors, a quiet yet powerful testament to the struggles and resilience of marginalised groups within the LGBTQIA+ community. Using progressive rainbow colours, they symbolise diverse queer identities standing together for recognition and equality. Each figure is carefully crafted to embody vulnerability, yet their collective presence exudes strength, unity, and an invitation for celebration.

The figures honour our rich history by wearing slogans from queer protests in the 1980s and 1990s, as seen during a recent visit to the Australian Queer Archives. These slogans, once emblematic of a fight for survival, now offer a message of hope, joy, and resilience in the face of ongoing struggles. A Quiet Protest not only responds to the current global trend of gradually abolishing trans rights, but it also pays homage to the generations of activists who fought to give us a voice. Each ceramic figure carries a sense of playfulness and courage, reminding us that in standing together, we find the power to face adversity with solidarity, joy, and an unwavering call for recognition and acceptance.
