Queering

One of Caitlin Kozman's elf portraits

Queering by Caitlin Kozman is a curated selection of ongoing self-portraits that were diarised from 2022. The collection will be displayed in the Pride Gallery from 24th September – 10th November 2025.

I was once asked to track a mood diary and rate myself using a numeric system. I couldn’t fathom how this would capture the nuances of the human condition. I tried to do so and on reflection found that my answers lacked depth. To investigate my own adventure towards acceptance of my identity as a queer feminist I decided to diarise this typology of self-portraits. I found my colour choices more accurate than the numerical system that was requested of me to mark my emotions towards myself and how society perceived me. My internal shifting perceptions of my own queer identity has been captured by my making marks and has resulted in much reflection and laughs.” – Caitlin Kozman
