About

Fitzroy Legal Service is a community legal centre that has been operating since 1972 to provide free and low-cost legal services across a range of legal areas. Our main office is located in the Fitzroy Town Hall where we operate our nightly drop-in service, our specialist clinics, and our legal representation services. In addition to our main office, we have duty lawyers working out of the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Collingwood as well as drug outreach and family violence outreach lawyers. Our specialist legal clinics include Family Law, Animal Law, Travellers and Migrant Employment Law, and our LGBTQIA+ family law clinic.

Fitzroy Legal Service is proud to have members of the LGBTQIA+ community as part of our client base, our volunteer body, our staff, management and board members.

Our family violence team runs a fortnightly outreach service to clients of Drummond Street Services via Queerspace. Through this service, our outreach lawyer is able to provide advice and referrals to people with legal needs associated with family violence.

Our LGBTQIA+ family law clinic runs on the first Wednesday of each month addressing a range of family law issues, including parenting and property advice. The clinic provides advice only, although referrals can be made to our family law practice where appropriate.
