(in)visible is a community driven program (created under THE DRUM youth services) that connects queer and trans people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds (QTIPOC) aged 18-25 through workshops and events. Small team, BIG GOALS!
Started in 2016, our aim was to create space for young QTIPOC to connect with others who may find the LGBTQIA+ overwhelming, especially if they weren’t out. Years later, we have bumped up our events, bumped up our crew and bumped up our outreach.
We are always looking for new idea’s that young people would like to attend! Some of the things we have done include:
- Movie screenings
- Queer Iftar
- Reading groups
- Video games & pizza
- Panel discussions
- Self defence classes
- Nature walks
- Yoga and movement classes
- Cooking classes
- Make-up classes
The (in)visible crew is made up of QTPOC, who also employ young QTIPOC people to lead the program as well. This means young people can see themselves in leadership roles! We lead the project in acknowledgement that all too often our service system silos our (queer, faith or multicultural) social realities.
We can also assist young people in accessing counselling services, or support them with violence prevention and response, and/or alcohol and other drug management.
We have just recently released the long awaited “OMG I’M QTIPOC” resource with minus18, which is available at Drummond St services. Pick up your free copy today!
We are a part of Drummond Street Services / The Drum Youth service, who are registered as a: Not-for-profit.
