Val’s LGBTI Ageing & Aged Care
Val’s LGBTI Ageing & Aged Care, a program of GLHV at ARCSHS works to improve the health and wellbeing of older LGBTI Australians.
Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care works with aged care, health and human services providers, and a range of community stakeholders to improve the health, wellbeing and visibility of older LGBTI people.
Val’s together with GLHV offers LGBTI inclusive aged care training, consultation, and provides evidenced based research, information and resources to build the capacity of services to be welcoming and inclusive of older LGBTI people.
Val’s provides regular e-news bulletins linking services and individuals to relevant information, resources, research, events and advocacy.
Every second year Val’s hosts a national LGBTI ageing and aged care conference.
Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care (formerly Val’s Café), was established in 2009 and is a Victorian-based program working to improve healthy ageing pathways, care and visibility of older LGBTI people.
Val’s is part of GLHV at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University.
Val’s works directly with service providers (both community and residential aged care, and health and human services) and facilitates a network of individuals and organisations to foster an understanding of the histories and experiences of older LGBTI people, and how these may impact access to services and care. Importantly Val’s works with services to build their capacity to be LGBTI aware and inclusive.
Val’s also works together with a range of other organisations nationally who are committed to improving ageing and care options for older LGBTI people.
We are a part of Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University.
