Yellowkitties

About

Yellowkitties is a non-profit, unincorporated, 100% volunteer based social support group for Asian women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex based in Melbourne. Our group was set up initially to cater to queer Asian women to help ease them assimilating into their newfound country, Australia, through social networking and support. It has proven very powerful as many have feedback on how Yellowkitties have helped them a lot by sheer peer support, be it through knowing friendships or getting general or career advices. Many of our members come from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. We are highly multicultural and we hold professions varying from being entrepreneurs, health practitioners, social services, professional services to tradies, retail associates and chefs e.t.c To date, we have more than 150 members. Out of which, a number of members are second generation Australians. Many of our activities revolve around social events such as sharing of cultural food, outdoor hiking and camping, board games, getaways and even our own version of Lean In sessions and Toastmasters.
