Biography
Mich McCowage is an award-winning, emerging, multidisciplinary theatre maker and performer and BFA graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts (Theatre, 2020). McCowage's practice spans physical theatre, writing, and ensemble-led performance, with a focus on poetic, embodied storytelling and curating spaces for shared vulnerability and diverse voices.
McCowage most recently worked with Dr Betty Sargeant as a movement consultant for their live show 'Betty Sargeant AI', South Korea 2025. They also co-devised the ensemble dance-theatre work, 'Social Beast', which was nightly improvised for the Melbourne Fringe, 2025.
Prior to this, they co-starred in the lead role of theatre production: 'Ballkids (Or, scenes from a friendship)' which was awarded Best New Writing at the Melbourne Fringe 2024.
In 2023, McCowage was nominated for Best Emerging Artist and Best Theatre Award at the Melbourne Fringe for their solo show 'night sweat'. They are currently in rehearsals with acclaimed physical theatre company PoPoMoCo in their upcoming production: 'Robert the Octopus' (Midsumma, 2026).
Experience
With over 15+ years as a professional theatre maker and performer, Mich has vast experience facilitating and presenting to people from various disciplines.
In 2025 they debuted their poetry anthology at the Melbourne Fringe T4T Transgender showcase. They also co-facilitated the Introductory Academic Program day for the incoming 2025 International cohort.
In 2024 they were invited back to the Victorian College of the Arts to facilitate and mentor the graduating theatre making cohort over the course of devising their final project.
