Melbourne Queer Film Festival Rooftop Cinema returns to the Victorian Pride Centre in November 2024

The Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) is set to return with a spectacular Rooftop Cinema Program hosted at the Victorian Pride Centre. This event, overlooking the picturesque St Kilda beach with breathtaking views, promises a unique and inclusive cinematic experience for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. The Rooftop Cinema will open its doors from November 10 to 19, starting with a fabulous bar from 7:00 PM for sunset, followed by screenings once the sun sets. 

Audiences can look forward to an eclectic selection of films, celebrating diversity, love, laughter, and the stories of the queer community. The program is designed to cater to all tastes  featuring a variety of films, including laugh-out-loud shorts, heartwarming dramas, and thought-provoking documentaries.

Please note that seating at MQFF’s Rooftop Cinema at the Victorian Pride Centre is picnic-style (without chairs), so please bring a picnic rug. Limited seating is available for people that require it, and beanbags are available for hire. In case of bad weather, the screening will be shifted inside to the Pride Centre’s Theatrette.

This is a wheelchair accessible venue with all gender bathrooms. Content warnings and any age restrictions are provided on the MQFF website.

La Cage Aux Folles (1978)

The festival opens with the classic French camp comedy, “La Cage Aux Folles,” directed by Édouard Molinaro. This delightful classic showcases the hilarious antics of a gay couple attempting to pose as straight to impress their son’s conservative fiancée’s family.
