Deaf Queer Festival Comes to Life at the Victorian Pride Centre for the First Time

DQF

The Deaf Queer Festival (DQF) will proudly take over the Victorian Pride Centre for the very first time from 2–4 May 2025, bringing a dynamic celebration of Deaf and Queer culture to the heart of St Kilda. Developed by Expressions Australia, this three-day festival promises a vibrant program of performances, workshops, community events, and social gatherings.

Transforming every corner of the Pride Centre, the festival will offer an inclusive and uplifting space for Deaf and Queer communities — and their allies — to come together, connect, and celebrate.

Festival highlights include:

  • Friday 2 May: An official Welcome Ceremony on the Rooftop, featuring special guests, Deaf-led performances, and a lively after-party at Prince of Wales Hotel.

  • Saturday 3 May: A full day of Auslan tours, community workshops exploring Deaf and Queer experiences, and the dazzling Hot Pink Mask Night featuring Deafies in Drag and an array of talented performers.

  • Sunday 4 May: A community BBQ, artisan market stalls, and a farewell gathering to wrap up the festival with warmth and pride.

Special guests include Joe Ball, Commissioner for LGBTIQA+ Communities, along with representatives from Thorne Harbour Health, Expression Australia, and Auslan Services.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Deaf Queer Festival to the Victorian Pride Centre for the first time,” said a spokesperson from Expressions Australia. “This festival is a powerful celebration of community, creativity, and visibility — and a reflection of the rich diversity within our Deaf and Queer communities.”

Auslan/English interpreters will be present throughout the weekend to ensure full accessibility for all participants.
