Nomads Outdoors Group – Laverton Station to Altona Station: Creek & Foreshore walk
August 13, 2023
Enjoy a surprisingly scenic walk in Melbourne’s west, following the Laverton Creek then the Altona foreshore.
GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Easy 8 km point-to-point walk on flat terrain with Metro train connections at each end. Some of the paths could be wet and slippery after rain.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: From Laverton Station we take the cycling path to the nearby Laverton Creek and follow that to where it flows into Port Phillip Bay. From that point we follow the Altona foreshore around to the Altona Pier, where we’ll head slightly inland to Altona Station, with the option of taking post-walk refreshments at one of the many cafes in Pier Street, Altona.
The walk takes us through Ramsar-recognised wetlands and past the Truganina Explosives Reserve, where some remnants of the former explosives depot and wharf are still visible.
