“A thoughtful, emotionally-charged exploration of a devoutly religious family man torn apart by the revelation of his love for another man”. Allan Hunter, Screen Daily

AWARD-WINNING GUATEMALAN FILM COMES TO YARRAVILLE’S SUN THEATRE
Saturday 21 January 4.30pm

Spanish and Latin American film group Melbourne Filmoteca is bringing the multiple award-winning feature Temblores by Jayro Bustamante to the intimate setting of the Sun Theatre in Yarraville for its last screening for the year.

‘Temblores’ is the beautifully shot, deeply nuanced story of a religious family man who is faced with impossible choices when he comes out as gay in his profoundly repressive community in Guatemala.

Guatemalan script writer and Director has followed up his stunning 2015 film Ixcanul with Temblores (or Tremors, in English), a vibrant portrayal of Guatemala City’s street life, alongside a steely depiction of an intolerant and judgemental society.

The film has won 15 international awards for its compelling and compassionate narrative, as well as its cinematography and extraordinary performance by lead actor Juan Pablo Olyslager.

This one-off screening will be in the beautiful Art Deco-era Sun Theatre in Yarraville, Melbourne, on Saturday 9 December at 4.30pm. Tickets are $35, available on Eventbrite. Proceeds go towards funding future screenings and events that celebrate Spanish and Portuguese language films, and help create community within the Hispanic communities of Melbourne.
