Join us at the Jewish Museum of Australia for a glass of wine, live music performed by the extraordinary Simon Starr and a fascinating conversation between Dr Golan Moskowitz (Tulane University) – author of Wild Visionary: Maurice Sendak in Queer Jewish Context – and Associate Professor David Slucki (Monash University).

Together, Golan and David will explore how Maurice Sendak’s personal identities, as a queer man and son of Yiddish speaking Polish-Jewish immigrants, influenced the creation of Maurice’s iconic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

Learn how Maurice grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust and how it informed his life, creative works and emotional resilience. Maurice’s intersecting identities as a queer and Jewish man have historically been sidelined but, in this conversation, Golan and David will discuss these rich aspects of the great author’s life and work.

Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, the beautiful melodies of Simon Starr and complimentary entry to CHAGALL in the show’s final week before closing.
