Castlemaine Pride

About

Castlemaine Pride is  an annual, fast-growing community celebration of LGBTIQA community, art and culture in the Mount Alexander Shire, and is focused on the town of Castlemaine. It commenced with a ‘Picnic in the Park’ (Castlemaine Botanic gardens) as a celebration of the Marriage Equality plebiscite in 2018.  It is now an annual festival and includes a growing number of events during the week prior and after the Castlemaine Pride Picnic in the Castlemaine Botanic Gardens, on 30^th March in 2022.

For 2022 Castlemaine Pride is focussed on (i) re-awakening those in the local LGBTIQA community who have lost community linkages as a result of COVID lockdown, and (ii) on creating mutually beneficial social and organisational connections between Castlemaine and Melbourne LGBTIQA communities and clubs with the purpose to support local LGBTIQA people re-connect, putting regional Victoria on the LGBTIQA+ map, and, to bring new custom to local hospitality (food, wine, and accommodation) tourism and arts organisations.

The Castlemaine Pride Organising Committee (OC) runs the festivals direct events and approves, co-ordinates and supports individuals or organisations running events as part of the festival.  The festival is auspiced by Castlemaine Community House Inc (CCCH) and run with collaboration with Castlemaine Community Health (CCH) and Castlemaine District Community Health – CHIRP (who are merging).

The Castlemaine Pride Organising Committee includes community volunteers and is supported with limited part time staff allocations of CCCH and CHIRP.   It develops the annual theme of the festival and logo, conducts promotion, organises the Picnic In The Park, liaises with Mount Alexander Shire, and works with commercial, community organisations and individuals who wish to run an approved event under the Castlemaine Pride umbrella.
