Diversity Project

About

The ‘Diversity Project’ aims to create a safer, more inclusive and healthier community in the City of Greater Shepparton and beyond for young people who are LGBTIQA+. The Diversity Project is an early intervention and prevention program focussing on LGBTIQA+ young people at risk of or experiencing social and emotional well-being issues and work with young people up to the age of 25. The program works to ensure that young people grow and develop while feeling safe to talk about their feelings, thoughts and identities, and seek the right help when they need it.

The areas of work that the Diversity Project focusses on include:

  • Prevention Response: Health and appropriate youth activity promotion, where resources, education and training are produced and offered to schools, clubs, volunteer groups, health and community welfare providers to create more inclusive spaces, combat homophobia, and help young people feel safe to talk openly about their sexuality and gender.
  • The Diversity Group: a safe space where young LGBTIQA+ people aged 12-25 can come together and support each other. Running twice a month, the groups include one for those aged 12-25 and another for those aged 18-25. Groups are youth lead and include; activities, arts and crafts, movie nights, connection, peer opportunities, meeting guests who are LGBTIQA+ adults from other areas of the community. Groups are dynamic to those in attendance and are fluid in their time, date and what it includes to help cater for the local audience of attendees.

We are a part of Uniting Goulburn North East, who are registered as a: Charity.
