Diversity Project

The ‘Diversity Project’ aims to create a safer, more inclusive and healthier community in the City of Greater Shepparton and beyond for young people who are LGBTIQA+.

The Diversity Project is an early intervention and prevention program focussing on LGBTIQA+ young people at risk of or experiencing social and emotional well-being issues and work with young people up to the age of 25.

The program works to ensure that young people grow and develop while feeling safe to talk about their feelings, thoughts and identities, and seek the right help when they need it.

The Diversity Project’s main components include.

  • Early Intervention Response: Proactive, gender sensitive support and case management for young people whose physical and mental health has been adversely affected by discrimination or issues related to their sexuality or gender.
  • Prevention Response: Health and appropriate youth activity promotion, where resources, education and training are produced and offered to schools, clubs, volunteer groups, health and community welfare providers to create more inclusive spaces, combat homophobia, and help young people feel safe to talk openly about their sexuality and gender.
  • The Diversity Group: a safe space where young LGBTIQA+ people aged 12-25 can come together and support each other. Running twice a month, the group is youth lead and includes; cooking and eating dinner together, meeting guests and learning from visitors to the group and enjoying activities together, eg: bowling, board games, trivia, going to the movies etc.

We are a part of Uniting Goulburn North East, who are registered as a: Charity.
