About

We work with LGBTIQ+ communities and many of the groups listed in the directory to improve health outcomes for people in north, west and central Melbourne. We do that by stitching together the disparate parts of the health system and identifying unmet needs and finding innovative solutions.  

We have a strong focus on mental health and suicide prevention. We commission services and programs to fill gaps and keep people healthy in the community and out of hospital. 

Our recent work includes a LGBTIQ+ suicide prevention trial, part of a national initiative funded by the Australian Government. Activities undertaken as part of the trial include:   

• LGBTIQ+ Aftercare 
• LGBTIQ+ Postvention response 
• LGBTIQ+ mentoring projects 
• Adapting suicide prevention training for the LGBTIQ+ community 
• LGBTIQ+ Affirmative Practice for frontline workers 
• Lean on Me research relating to peer and community leaders 
• the Speaking Up Speaks Volumes behaviour change campaign 
• Community Wellness Grants initiatives. 

We commission Head to Health mental health centres and intake service that helps Victorians of all ages find the best mental health support for them. Anyone can call 1800 595 212 to speak with a trained professional who will give you advice and connect you to the best support or service for you or a loved one. This includes specialised services for LGBTIQ+ people. 

 We also host education and training, develop partnerships and commission services to enable better care for LGBTIQ+ people. Learn more on our website. 

 We are always looking for volunteers to join our People Bank to collaborate with and help us make lived experience central to how we plan, design, commission and evaluate services.
