The Alluvians (Castlemaine)

The Alluvians is a gay men’s social group based in Castlemaine (about 130km north of Melbourne) and with men attending events from across the Mount Alexander Shire and surrounding areas.

We are a small, unincorporated, volunteer run, not-for-profit social group that provides a safe, non-judgmental welcoming environment for gay, bi and trans men in Castlemaine and surrounding area.

The Alluvians provide several different opportunities to socialise for retired and working men. Our informal gatherings include:

•  Tuesday’s garden walk in the Botanical Gardens in Castlemaine, which are dog friendly, and offer a great opportunity to catch up with friends or meet new people while walking around the charming Castlemaine Botanic Gardens or afterwards over a coffee at the nearby Das Kaffeehause.
• Thursday’s bushwalks are dog free, designed to be more challenging and go to a great variety of places of interest around Castlemaine and are usually between 7-10k long with some more challenging than others – but always enjoyable. After the walk there is a cuppa, biscuits and opportunity for a chat, and suggestions for the following weeks walk.
• Monthly drinks at a new venue, the Albion Hotel, Wesley Hill, are held on the first Sunday of the month.
• Monthly weekend events are held throughout the year, during the weekend, which may include: Car Rally, Christmas in July, Curry Night, Pub Lunch, Melbourne Cup picnic in the Botanical Gardens, Australia Day Pool Party, a train trip and lunch at a pub and of course a Christmas picnic. Some events attract men from further afield, including Bendigo, Trentham and Daylesford.
• Ad hoc events from time-to-time an event at short notice such as a picnic evening meal in the gardens, a film of interest at Cinema Royale or local theatre production.

In addition, should any of our group experience ill-health or trauma, we seek to assist them with social support and a helping hand.

We have close links to the LGBTIQA+ outreach of Dhelkaya Health, to Castlemaine Pride and Cobaw-Sunbury Community Health.

We will reply sending you our Code of Conduct, which when you agree to, we will add you to our email list so you will receive all communications directly. We recognise that a growing number of Alluvians do not use social media, however there is a Facebook Group page on which some of our events are posted – please note that membership of the Facebook Group is not joining the Alluvians, and different from joining our email list.
