The Alluvians (Castlemaine)

The Alluvians are a Gay men’s social group based in the town of Castlemaine (about 130km north of Melbourne). We are a small, unincorporated,  volunteer run, not-for-profit social group that provides a safe, non-judgmental welcoming environment for gay, Bi and Trans men in Castlemaine and surrounding area.

The Alluvians provide a number of different outdoors and indoor opportunities to socialise, including informal gatherings like walking groups (which are weekly) to monthly drinks and some more formal events during the year which attract men from further afield, including Bendigo, Trentham and Daylesford.  There is a members Facebook page, website and and e mail list which we use to provide members with updates on events and gatherings. We have good links to the LGBTIQA+ outreach of CHIRP and Castlemaine Health.

Our informal gatherings include: Tuesday walks in the Botanical Gardens in Castlemaine, which are dog friendly, and offer a great opportunity to catch up with friends or meet new people ending while walking around the charming gardens or afterwards over a coffee at the nearby Das Kaffeehause.  Thursday walks are designed to be more challenging and go to a great variety of places of interest around Castlemaine and are usually between 7-10k long with some more challenging than others –  but always enjoyable.  Monthly drinks at the Midland Hotel, held on the last Sunday of the month are now a regular, and ad hoc events, for example Friday evening Fish & Chips/takeaway in the Botanical Gardens (usually a summer activity).

Throughout the year we hold regular events too, including: Car Rally, Christmas in July, Curry Night, Melbourne Cup picnic in the Botanical Gardens, Australia Day Pool Party and a train trip and lunch at a pub in Rochester. New members always welcome.
