MEDIA RELEASE
Melbourne, Australia, 18 February 2021 — Australia’s oldest and largest independent LGBTIQ+ media outlet will be joining the esteemed list of residents at the Pride Centre.
Star Observer has been reporting for over 40 years and currently has over 200,000 loyal readers across their online and print platforms. The next chapter for the publication will be to join an array of LGBTIQ+ organisations and businesses who will be operating out of the Pride Centre in St Kilda in the next few months.
Australia’s first community owned and largest Pride Centre is moving quickly from a dream to a reality with the building almost at completion. Resident organisations include Minus18, Thorne Harbour Health, Star Health, MQFF, AGMC, Transgender Victoria, Australian Queer Archives, Monash Gender Clinic, JOY 94.9, Switchboard (admin) and most recently announced Hares and Hyenas Bookshop.
Since 1979 the Star Observer has been reporting on the current affairs of our LGBTIQ+ community, covering topics and movements such as Decriminalisation, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, Pride, Mardi Gras, Marriage Equality and other significant community events.

‘We are excited to be a part of the Victorian Pride Centre. As we redouble our effort to provide comprehensive coverage of Melbourne’s LGBTQI community, having a dedicated office space in the Centre provides us with the opportunity to keep our finger on the pulse of Melbourne’s vibrant and dynamic queer community.’
