The Victorian Pride Centre (VPC) is seeking expressions of interest for passionate individuals to join our newly formed Fundraising and Engagement Committee (FEC). This committee replaces the previous Communications and Engagement Committee and will play a key role in strengthening the VPC’s financial sustainability and external relationships.

Background

Since its inception, the VPC has maintained a committee focused on communications, marketing, and external affairs. In 2021, this evolved into the Communications and Engagement Committee to enhance stakeholder engagement. With the establishment of a dedicated staff team led by a communications and fundraising professional, we are now taking the next step: forming the Fundraising and Engagement Committee.

This strategically focused subcommittee will concentrate on external relationships and fundraising, ensuring the VPC remains financially sustainable and well-connected with key stakeholders.

About the Fundraising and Engagement Committee

Purpose

The Fundraising and Engagement Committee will provide expert advice and strategic guidance to the VPC’s staff and Board on external relations and fundraising.

Financial sustainability is crucial to achieving the VPC’s mission. This committee will enhance our ability to secure funding, foster relationships, and expand our networks to support the ongoing success of the Centre.

The committee’s key focus areas include:

  • Advising on stakeholder relationships, including government, patrons, corporate partners, sponsors, and donors.
  • Providing strategic guidance on fundraising, donor relations, bequests, and grants.
  • Supporting the Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising Manager, CEO, and Board.

Key Responsibilities

Members of the Fundraising and Engagement Committee will:

  • Provide strategic advice on external relations and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive financial sustainability strategy.
  • Assist in building and strengthening relationships with government and corporate partners.
  • Offer mentorship and guidance to the Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising Manager.

The committee will not oversee relationships with the Centre’s resident organisations, except in cases of joint communication and events.

Committee Membership

Membership is by invitation following an Expression of Interest process. Members will be selected based on their skills and experience rather than as representatives of specific organisations.

Structure

  • Chaired by: David Imber (VPC Board Member)
  • Minimum 4 external members
  • Board Members: At least one additional VPC Board Member
  • CEO & Board Chair: Ex officio members

Selection Criteria

We are looking for members with expertise in:

  • Corporate affairs and stakeholder relations (corporate or NFP sector)
  • Fundraising, donor relations, philanthropy, or corporate social responsibility

Participation on the committee is voluntary, though members may co-opt additional volunteer support as needed.

Commitment and Meetings

  • The committee will meet at least four times per year.
  • Meetings will be chaired by David Imber or the alternate Board Member.
  • Secretariat support will be provided by the Partnerships and Donor Engagement Coordinator.
  • Quorum: Three members (including two Board Directors and one external member).
  • Meetings may be attended in person or via technology-enabled platforms.
